A Decade in the Making with Family at the Center
On January 4, 2026, we mark five years of owning and stewarding Aquanauts Grenada. Anniversaries invite reflection, and this one comes with so many layers. While Aquanauts has been in our hands for five years, the idea behind it was born much earlier.

More than ten years ago, before there was a shop, a boat, the daily rhythm of divers, our team and laughter on the docks, there was a concept called HydroSoul. It wasn’t a business plan. It was a feeling, a vision, and a question:
What if the ocean could be a doorway, not just to adventure, but to conservation, education, and community?
What if diving could connect people not only to reefs, but to the land, culture, music, food, and each other?
HydroSoul was always about more than being underwater. It was about roots-to-reef thinking. About Ital living principles. About conservation, education, and community engagement, often brought together through music as a shared language.
When we stepped into Aquanauts Grenada in January 2021, the world was still holding its breath. COVID had reshaped travel, livelihoods, and human connection. Starting, or continuing, anything in that moment required faith, adaptability, and a deep sense of purpose. We didn’t arrive with certainty, but we arrived with intention.
Aquanauts Grenada is, at its core, a family-run operation. It is built and carried forward by myself (Tom), my wife Tammy, our daughter Tiffany, and our son Ty. Andrew is now part of the family (soon to be son-in-law), and woven into our daily life here is my mother-in-law—known lovingly by everyone as Grandma—always present, always smiling, always reminding us that warmth and kindness matter just as much as logistics and schedules.
That sense of family extends far beyond our last name.
Grenada became more than a location. It became home. Over time, the shop, the dock, the dive boats, and the jam nights turned into gathering places. The nearby university, St. George’s University, has come to call Tammy their Island Mom—a title that perfectly captures the spirit she brings to everyone who walks through our doors. Care, connection, and genuine presence are not add-ons here; they are the foundation.
Over the past five years, Aquanauts Grenada has grown into something that feels aligned with that original HydroSoul vision. We’ve built a dive operation grounded in safety, professionalism, and joy, but also in respect for the ocean and the people who live alongside it. We’ve welcomed travelers from around the world and watched them fall in love with Grenada’s reefs, wrecks, and rhythms.
And along the way, we’ve grown to love the people who come to us, whether they step aboard a dive boat for the first time or wander in for a jam night and end up staying for the conversation. Divers, students, locals, travelers, musicians, conservationists—everyone becomes part of the current for a moment, and often much longer.
Aquanauts Grenada is not what it is because of any single person. It exists because of community. Instructors, captains, staff, partners, neighbors, artists, farmers, scientists, and friends have all helped move this vision forward, sometimes quietly, sometimes loudly, always meaningfully. We are deeply grateful for the trust, encouragement, and shared belief that something different is possible.
Today, many of the ideas that once lived only in notebooks and late-night conversations now have form. HydroSoul is now a Grenadian NGO, supporting conservation, education, and access to the ocean for the community. Aquanauts continues to be a place where divers of all backgrounds and abilities can learn, explore, and feel welcome. Together, they represent two sides of the same current: one focused on experience, the other on impact.
And still, it feels like we are just getting started.
Looking ahead, we see years of continued development, stronger roots in Grenada, deeper collaboration with local and regional partners, expanded education and scholarship pathways, and meaningful contributions to reef and seagrass restoration. We see Aquanauts and HydroSoul growing together, guided by the same values that sparked this journey more than a decade ago.
Five years of ownership. Ten years of vision. A family at the center. A community all around us. And many more years of growth ahead.
Thank you for being part of this story, whether you joined us on a dive, shared a song, lent a hand, or simply showed up with an open heart. We look forward to continuing this journey together, in the water and on land, rooted in connection and guided by the sea.
With gratitude and forward motion,
Tom, Tammy, Tiffany, Ty, Andrew, Grandma
