HydroSoul, a newly approved Grenadian non-governmental organization (NGO), is setting out to redefine sustainability in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Created by the leadership at Aquanauts Grenada and developed in collaboration with local Grenadians, HydroSoul embodies a holistic approach that connects the island’s natural resources and people “from roots to reef.”

With programs that combine ecosystem restoration, youth training, and sustainable tourism, HydroSoul offers a blueprint for how Caribbean nations can protect their environment while empowering their communities.

“HydroSoul represents the heart of what it means to be Grenadian: proud of our local heritage, connected to our environment, and committed to a sustainable future by empowering our youth,” said Tiffany Geer, Program Director of HydroSoul.“Our Roots to-Reef approach brings people together to learn and understand that everything works in symbiotic relationships, from the farms that feed us to the reefs that protect us.”

HydroSoul’s cornerstone initiatives, Roots-to-Reef Retreats and Full-Day Excursions, invite both locals and international visitors to experience Grenada’s interconnected ecosystems through guided adventures and hands-on conservation-focused workshops. The NGO also supports training in scientific diving, coral restoration, and blue carbon monitoring, opening new pathways for Grenadian youth to engage in sustainable careers linked to both land and sea.

The organization’s efforts include the development of a coral nursery and a blue carbon pilot project covering ten hectares of seagrass along Grenada’s southern coast, in partnership with local and regional collaborators. These projects will act as living laboratories for community-based conservation and scientific research while strengthening Grenada’s leadership in regional Blue and Green Economy priorities.

We want HydroSoul to prove that sustainable development in small island nations is not only possible, it is powerful,” added Geer. “When our youth gain the skills to protect what makes Grenada unique, we build a stronger and more resilient future for everyone.”

Through collaboration with local dive operators, schools, and community groups, HydroSoul is demonstrating how Grenada can lead by combining science, tourism, and culture to nurture both people and the planet.
